DENNIS DAVISON - Vice President
I first met Raphaele in 2004 while volunteering at another rescue. During some down time in the music world I decided to renew my childhood interest in dogs and became involved in the world of animal rescue.
At this particular rescue there was an unusually high percentage of "people aggressive dogs" and Raphaele and Martina were two of the dedicated volunteers who were able and willing to work with these sometimes difficult pups.
Raphaele recruited me into this clique through her "baptism by fire" technique. One day while at the rescue she
handed off a dog to me after she was summoned to help out with an adoption. When I asked about the unknown dog that she'd just turned pawned off she simply replied, "he doesn't like men". I'm still not sure to this day whether she was so impressed with my dog handling technique or whether my masculinity was in question.
A few years later we started Sachi Animal Rescue specifically to help these troubled dogs.
We've recently branched out by taking in easier placement dogs and we're moving them into homes with surprising ease. There isn't a canine issue that we haven't dealt with and our expansion to northern California has enabled us to place many more dogs than we ever thought possible. This also has brought in a new group of passionate volunteers.
We've had many ups and downs in our history as SAR, but we always seem to come out of the rough times with
renewed strength and focus.
Dennis Davison is a musician and has been a vegetarian for 30 years.
