As a child we always had the family dog usually a poodle, ( not my pick ) but it was a dog anyway! Then one day my Dad brought home a Great dane, now that was a dog, I liked the bigger dogs so I liked that! We did not have him very long before he became ill, I found out much later that our mean neighbor did not like our big but well mannered dog, so he poisoned him and he died, that is when I discovered that people can be mean to animals for no reason. Still living at home the neighborhood had a wonderful dog that ran around to greet everyone, such a neat dog, well turns out that dog was "Butch" a Boxer, coolest dog I had ever met. That is when I knew I would have a boxer one day! I did get my boxer about 9 years after I was married, my husband and I both wanted one, could not wait to get one. So we called our Vet to get his opinion on a good breeder and so we called and yes she had puppies, because back then I had never heard of rescue or a shelter at all. We got in the car a raced over there to see her and 2 days later we brought home our beautiful Makenna!! 4 years later we went back and brought home Cohiba and had a blast with those 2 boxers! We did lose Cohiba to cancer at 5 years of age and we lost Makenna at 10 1/2 to DM, but I would not change anything , the time I had with them was golden and they taught me so much and gave me unconditional love!! I have them to thank for the work that I put in saving the lives that I do with the help from Sachi!!! I see these beautiful gifts from God in the shelters that people leave as trash and I don't understand, I never will, therefore I have to be there for them as they are unconditional love and they will be loved by somebody in this world ! I got involved in rescue because Celeste Charles put up a post on Facebook and I saw it and that hooked me, I got that girl out and she is with one of my good friends and is healthy and happy as could be, so that is proof that one mans trash is another mans treasure and there is a lot of treasure to go around!! I live now with my wonderful husband Kirk and our 3 boxers Bo, Montana and Jackson, whom I show! I think Boxers should be in every house, and if they don't know the Boxer, then they missed out on something very special on this planet, as this dog is full of Beauty, brains and complete humor!!! |
CHRISTYOriginally from Kentucky, I moved to sunny SoCal a little over 4 years ago. I bleed Blue and also am in the horse business (imagine that!). I rescued my first Boxer 7 years ago from a rescue in Kentucky. Growing up I always had black Labs or Lab mixes. When it came time to adopt my own dog, I researched
breeds and was immediately drawn to the Boxer breed. And so it began... Kinley taught me a lot about the breed and has been my rock as I have moved several times all across the country. Once in California, I began to learn about the abundance of kill shelters in the LA area. It was then that I adopted my second Boxer, Maddox, from Downey just over 3 years ago. He was the light of our lives until his sudden passing nearly a year ago to bloat, only days after his 5th birthday. Once Kinley and I were able to heal, I felt the tug to return to the awful place that brought me my beloved Maddox. The day I went back to Downey I cried the whole way, I felt Maddox riding with me telling me to go save more..to give them a chance at a life with |
love and comfort, even if only for a short while. It was that day that I vowed to continue pushing through the pain of loss to save as many as possible.
A month later I came across a photo of an older Boxer in need of a home..and he melted my heart. I went to Oceanside to meet him and it was love at first sight. My dearest El Senor Ernie (aka Ernesto) became an immediate member of my small family. Next came Lucas..he was a stray at Baldwin Park, the shelter that I work weekly now for Sachi. He was one of the many Boxers sitting
on death row..his time was up and no one had come for him. Without thinking, I snatched him up. My heart knew he was meant to be with me and my little pack.
Saving Boxers is what brings the most happiness to my life. All it takes is that first wiggle as we walk out of the shelter to make my heart sing. With every rescue I feel re-energized to go back and save more; and for those I have been unable to save, my heart aches daily. STACY & KENDYLI have been an animal person all my life, always having had a dog and cat. When I was a little girl, I was always bringing home strays, much to my mother’s dismay! I currently have a ten-year-old shepherd/retriever mix, Charlie, and he was an only dog for about three years. I was perfectly content with having one dog, until my niece gave me my first boxer four years ago. She said to me, “I know you will love boxers, and once you have one, you will never go without one.” And, boy, was she right! a week before his third birthday to a brain tumor. He was an amazing dog and is forever in our hearts. (Notice the resemblance of
our Elvis to Sachi’s Scooby!). In his honor, we got our girl, Presley, to help heal our hearts and because, who can live without a boxer?! In our search for Presley, Kendyl and I noticed how many dogs there were that needed to be rescued, and how so many of them were boxers. Thus began our venture into helping as many dogs as we can. I began a Facebook page to network dogs, and after my car accident, I began fostering dogs. The joy the dogs gave me helped me to deal with the frustration during my healing. It is hard to say
goodbye, but there is no better feeling than helping a dog find their forever home, witness them learning to play with toys and other dogs, and experiencing love for the first time.
Kendyl is a dog groomer at PetSmart, and is very passionate about all dogs, boxers especially. All of her friends call her “the dog whisperer” because she is so drawn to them and they are drawn to her.

      | MELISSABoxers, I can definitely say, are my favorite breed of dogs. And, i only realized this about 4 years ago, when I rescued my first Boxer, Hoss. He was surrendered to me by his breeder at 4 weeks old. They are not sure what happened but he suddenly
loss use of his back legs and could not control his bladder. After about 3 weeks of physical therapy and medications he started walking! It was a miracle!!! Shortly, after he came down with parvo-virus, and we almost lost him. I nursed him back to health and thankfully, Hoss made it through and he is a handsome, loyal, wonderful member of our family. I'am extremely thankful to be working with such a great organization that help Boxers, and others, find loving homes. I have rescued many dogs and cats, young and old, for about 10 years now, but I have dedicated myself to the Boxer Breed. I have seen them neglected, abandoned, abused, and I look at them and I still do not understand why. These dogs are so wonderful! They are the perfect dog, all the way around! Words just cannot describe the joy Hoss has brought our family. I could not imagine my life without him! And, to help other wonderful Boxers on their journey in life is a great fulfillment. My name is Celeste Charles, I learned of the shelter doggies in 2010,
visited a shelter for the first time in my life in Oct 2010, I was
devastated, I knew I could not bring them all home, so after crying
for days I thought of a way to maybe help them, so my granddaughter Alexis and I started going to the shelter and taking pictures to network on my facebook, to give the doggies more exposure. Well it WORKS... hundreds have made it out since Oct 2010 by doing this. We are so happy to help. Although I love all doggies.. Boxers are my LOVE!! Sachi is so wonderful and has stepped up for many shelter boxers. Alexis and I love working with Sachi. We absolutely love everyone at Sachi!!

I've been a dog person my whole life. My family dog, Bandit (Queensland Heeler), lived to be 18. He was as much a part of the family as I was. Bandit was a training challenge but even at a young age I understood that training him was hard but that doesn't mean he was a "bad dog." Currently, I volunteer at the East Bay SPCA as a Canine Companion. I enjoy spending time and training all sizes and breeds of dogs. But my heart is with Boxers. The love of my life was a Boxer named Chester. I had never experienced their affection, wiggly bodies, and squishy faces until a few years ago! After spending my time with Chester I realized that Boxers just might be the perfect dog! Everyone should experience a Boxer's love.
RHONDA (SAR NorCal Foster Coordinator)I have been a Boxer fan, owner, and most of all lover since 1953 (I was 6) with my first Boxer, Duke, that came from Germany as a travel companion for one my Aunt's Show German Shepherds. Since Duke I have had a Boxer or two in my home ever since. I have had males and females, fawn, brindle, white, deaf and hearing. I really have no preference. There have been ten all together. They all were rescues in one way or another.
After loosing our Yuba in 1999, I began haunting the Boxer Rescue websites. We adopted Duchess, a 10 month old white deaf female, in 2000 from NorCal Boxer Rescue. Quickly I became involved with rescue doing transport, fostering, home visits, pulling dogs from shelters and owner surrenders, then transported them to the rescue vets in the Sacramento area. I served as a board member as well as foster home coordinator for approximately 2-1/2 years. During that time we adopted 2 more white deaf boxers (Fraiser, 11 months and Willie, 2 years). They were all taught sign language and were the best behaved Boxers ever! We lost our last deafy, Willie, in February of this year. Our Great White Deafies are all soulfully missed. We adopted a hearing white female pup, Cleopatra, in March of 2010. Her Mom and Dad, a backyard white breeding pair, were rescued by a Vet Tech friend of mine. Mom was pregnant and gave birth to 5 females and 1 male. The Mom and Dad were spayed and neutered and were adopted together by a wonderful man. All the pups have great homes. We still hear from most of the families. In March of this year my friend, Tracy Hon of Chico Boxer Rescue fame, ask me to do a rescue pull for a 6 month old check boxer at Sacramento County Shelter. The shelter decided that he should be well enough to be put up for adoption instead. Long story short, he got adopted all right, by me. Cleopatra needed Caesar and Caesar needed Cleopatra. It is heartwarming to watch the two of them. They really do love each other. Rounding out our family we also have a 14 year old Golden Lab (my swimming girl) and a 13 year old cat. I have worked closely with Tracy (Chico Boxer Rescue) for at least 8 years. She helped me through many difficult situations I faced with NorCal. She is my best friend and I highly respect her rescue work and canine knowledge. |     |
     | JANAs a little girl growing up in rural Iowa, I was not allowed to have pets until the age of 3 because I was born with asthma. I made up for it by having dogs from the neighborhood follow me back home from school every day. Part of my childhood I spent with my Aunt and Uncle since my older sister was very ill and was given a short time to live. I remember in particular a Boxer who was always barking from behind the fence of his yard and made time everyday to pet him and talk to him. One day his owner caught me and told me that I shouldn't be doing this as this dog was not a "nice" dog and had bitten people. Funny how I never had an issue with him and he was always a perfect gentle soul with me....
Somehow I always felt a deep connection to animals and it seemed that the feeling was mutual.
At 3 years old, I got my first dog (boxer) and cat (Persian) and have been a pet owner ever since. I moved to California at the age of 15 with my dogs and my cats were left behind with the bird. I lived there until recently when my husband and I decided to move to Northern Arkansas to be closer to my grandson Aidan. We packed up two boxers and two cats on our trip to Arkansas.

While in California, I became heavily involved with dog rescue, more motivated at first to escape the car shows my husband would drag me to every sundays. Very rapidly, I became passionate about the rescue mission but was also often appalled by the reasons people would come up with to give up their pets. I could never understand why so many do not make more of an effort to include their pets in their move or relocation or plainly put, make them more full time members of their family. Where we are now in Bella Vista, Arkansas, we are confronted daily with the problems of pet overpopulation, be it via the puppy mills in our state of Arkansas or
neighboring states, or the dumping of numerous dogs and cats in our area, even though it is against the law. 6 months ago, I was able to rescue a starving boxer on the golf course by our house no one could approach and found him a loving home in Kansas City thanks to the local animal shelter. I spend my days surrounded by Junior and Cowboy, my 2 boxers, Wacky Jacky, a Doxie we rescued from the harsh Arkansas winters and Misty the cat. Recently, I have endeared myself to a feral mama cat and her kittens living behind my house and besides feeding them, I have been trying to catch them in order to get them fixed. Sachi Animal Rescue is one of the rescues I support and endorse because they never give up on their dogs, no matter what their problems may be. Every time SAR comes calling, I am happy to come and help out for any type of special events and occasions. We are a big family of friends and animal lovers and it is always a joy to catch up with the gang and see all the SAR babies up close and personal, particularly my two favorites, Sammy the Monkey and Bruce the Looker.

DANI grew up in a house full of a variety of pets, except, strangely enough, for the cat. However, my bio wouldn’t be complete without mentioning my love for the guinea pig. In fact, the first animal “rescue” that I ever witnessed was when my mom brought home two guinea pigs, Lady Jane and Lord Byron, from the medical research lab where she worked as a secretary. I’d like to say that I was too young to understand how she managed to get these two pigs “rescued”, but I do remember she was quite a charmer with her feminine wiles. Needless to say, a few months later, and after having measured poor Lady Jane’s stomach at a whopping girth of 18 inches, she gave birth to 8 little piggies. These childhood experiences really impacted my love for animals, and as an adult I was lucky enough to have had several pigs of my own.

I know, it seems like having a pig is a poor substitute for a dog, but when you are living like a nomad, they are just a tiny bit easier to cart around with you. In fact, when I drove out to LA from Chicago, I had my, now elderly, mother as a co-pilot (if you consider sleeping the #1 duty of a co-pilot) and five pigs stuffed into my tiny little pick-up truck. It was quite an adventurous road trip, and I have the home movies as proof. For instance I filmed one-handedly while cruising down the highway at 90+ mph the moment when my mother’s upper denture rolled out of her mouth during a “nap” and landed on her stomach.
Anyway, those pigs brought me a lot of joy, and I couldn’t have been happier to have known them…well that is until we adopted Monchis, our first boxer. And now, thru SAR, we are adding Whiskey to our clan. My only wish as a volunteer is that one day I am able to payback to a dog in need just a smidgen of the joy that SAR has brought into my life. And congrats to Rafa on making her dreams of SAR a reality. Now, can someone help me to fulfill my other childhood dream of owning a goat? Stop laughing, I’m serious! |

DanielleHi, my name is Danielle Adler and I live in the Bay Area. A little about me…..Our family adopted our first pet, an Old English Sheep Dog, when I was just a baby. Snuffles grew to be over 120 pounds and I loved every inch of him. We also had a beautiful Persian cat named Buffy, who I adored as well. Ever
since then, I have been a passionate animal lover. I’ve had cats all my life, but I finally owned my first dog about 6 years ago. Chula is a Shiba Inu/Terrier Mix and the biggest love ever. About 2 years ago, we welcomed our first Boxer into our home. Oscar was a beautiful fawn with the sweetest temperament ever. When he was 6 months old, he somehow contracted mange and had a horrible allergic reaction. He got extremely sick and within a year, we were forced to put our baby down. He wasn't even a year old yet. After Oscar, I knew that Boxers had forever wiggled a way into my heart and I soon wanted another one. So in came Colby, a gorgeous reverse brindle. She has lots of energy and loves to play. She makes me smile and cracks me up with her crazy antics. |        |
One evening, I was browsing the Internet because I wanted another Boxer to add to my family. They are like potato chips, you can’t have just one! That is when I came across Sachi’s website where I instantly fell in love with Baxter. After submitting an application and talking to Raphaele, I got in touch with Yoshika. We instantly hit it off and something in me sparked and I knew I now had the ability and time to begin volunteering. I started making calls to potential adopters, performed home checks, fostered a few dogs and then eventually conducted my first adoption! This has not only been a wonderful experience, but an eye opening one as well. Like most people, I had no idea what problems the shelters and rescues were faced with on a daily basis. Once I saw the horrors some of these animals experienced, I knew I wanted to do anything in my power to help them.
In addition to helping Sachi, I am also a middle school teacher. I feel like I have this amazing chance to educate their young minds in the proper way of taking care of their pets, the importance of spaying and neutering, as well as, the harsh realities of shelters and rescues. It is my wish that one day we won’t need as many rescues and animals can live a long, healthy life without the fear of abuse and death. Besides teaching, I have definitely found my calling. I thank Sachi for giving me this amazing opportunity to volunteer. I am proud and honored to be a part of this wonderful, caring family.

best friends. Have never met a dog that I didn't like and believe with all my heart there is no such
thing as a "bad dog".
I'm a "Pug person", but, somehow, ended up volunteering primarily with boxers since moving here with our pug from the mid-west in 2002. Thanks to you, my dear daughter, Jourdan.
Anyway, have worked taking care of kenneled dogs at a local rescue where I earned the coveted
title of "Queen of Poop Scoop", have helped getting dogs adopted, have walked dogs, bathed them, played with them and continue to make them my special meatballs.
I have fostered several of the best dogs in the world. My last foster was CHARLIE," the Wonder dog." Charlie was a very special old guy. He left us for the Rainbow Bridge awhile ago. Miss him terribly. But take much comfort in him knowing how much he was loved before he had to leave. And, I smile knowing he how is running free with my Boxer grand-babies, Francie and Atticus, who also left for the "bridge" this year. Can just see Francie chasing Puggy's stoller wheels and hear Atticus barking non-stop to add to the festivities while Charlie tells them all to show a bit of dignity.
SACHI was among the first group of dogs I met when I moved to California. I loved him dearly and will never un-wrap a candy bar again without thinking of him. Have loved so many like my other special fosters, Bosco aka "The Lip", Bake, Buddy, Lennon,
Picasso, Zipper, Lois Lane, KO, Lucas, Bubba, Edy "No Down" and so many, many others. The dogs ask for so little. Some individual time, love and attention makes such a difference in their lives. And, what a difference spending time with them has made
in mine.
That is the thing about volunteering with and for the dogs. You end up winning no matter how hard it seems at times. The dogs give back so much love and laughter. And, let me tell you, there is no better feeling in the world then when these "orphans" are
found and adopted by that special person(s) who will love them and finally give them a home to call their own.
